Finding yourself at Forty plus ...!

Most of us will have/had hopes, dreams and aspirations at some point in our lives, but how many of us actually fulfil these promises to ourselves?

Whether it be our work, raising a family or other outside influences, it is very easy to lose sight of ourselves and before we know it, we’ve been working for 30 years, our children are now adults and we are ..., well who are we?

I have found myself at 46 realising I have no outside hobbies of my own. I proudly support my family with their interests/work, but other than that and developing my career, I do very little for myself and have no personal/fun goals. Now don’t get me wrong, I am content that I have dedicated a large proportion of my life to being a mother, (the role I am most proud of), whilst also having a career, but now I realise I’m nearer 50 than 40 and would like to regain my own identity. Can you relate to this?

I used to compete horses when I was younger and stopped riding around 15 years ago. I decided to “get back in the saddle” this week. I was absolutely terrified at the thought, but I grasped the nettle and took myself off on a horse riding camp. I pushed myself right out of my comfort zone. At times I thought my heart would leap out of my chest with anxiety, but do you know what, by the time I was due to come home I felt like I was alive again and intend on keeping it up, with the long term goal of competing.

Life gets in the way, of course it does as we grow and take on more responsibility, but I am a firm believer in that we must live while we are living and we are all entitled to do so.

What would you love to do, but scares you? What do you regret not doing? What is stopping you? Are you stopping you?

Why don't you set a goal?

Pushing myself and accepting more personal fun challenges is something I plan doing more of in the future.

They say life begins at forty, so let’s go!
