Women Inspiring Women ~ Meet Di Jones
#IWD2021 - International Womens' Day March 8th 2021 - The campaign theme: #ChooseToChallenge
For this years campaign I have chosen to support and champion fellow Business Women, and have dedicated the month of March to promote and share their journey and challenges in business.
From challenge comes change.
I am delighted to share with you my inspiring interview with Di Jones, Commercial Photographer, Di Jones Photography
What inspired you to start your own business?
I had always intended on going back to work after having my Son in June 1993, however on the very first day that I was driving away from the Childminders heading to work, something tore at my heart so much bigger than I could bare.
Just a few miles into my journey, I turned around went back for him and made a decision there and then that I would have to find a way to make life work whilst being a stay at home mum.
What have been the biggest challenges you have had to face as a Woman in Business and how have you overcome them?
I have always worked in a male environment so don’t really see being a Woman in Business a challenge. I am of the belief that we are all equal and if something needs doing then you hire the right people or just do it yourself. Challenges are only challenges if you allow them to be.
Many women are feeling overwhelmed at juggling their professional and personal life, do you have any tips to share to restore the balance?
It appears pretty simple…, but take structured ‘time out’ and stick to it.
For me it is meditating, walking, and exploring the countryside with my camera.
What has been your greatest mistake in business and what did you learn from it?
My biggest mistake by far was putting ‘all my eggs in one basket’ and NOT setting up my own pension!
I have learned to diversify my talents and create a passive income by sharing my knowledge and experience to help others just starting out.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?
Disperse of ‘Imposter Syndrome’ (which we all have at some point in our careers) and follow your heart.
Make sure you don’t have a life of regret through NOT doing it and START!
