Women Inspiring Women ~ Meet Hollie Ellis

#IWD2021 - International Womens' Day March 8th 2021 - The campaign theme: #ChooseToChallenge

For this years campaign I have chosen to support and champion fellow Business Women, and have dedicated the month of March to promote and share their journey and challenges in business.

From challenge comes change.

I am delighted to share with you my inspiring interview with  Hollie Ellis ~ Strategic Brand Designer

I’m Hollie, a strategic brand designer and I founded Hollie Ellis Design in January 2015. I originally worked with start ups, and now I support 6 & 7 figure female entrepreneurs and companies with their graphic design needs including rebrands. I have 14 years industry experience and have had the pleasure of designing for some global brands.

1. What inspired you to start your own business?

I was being bullied in my corporate job (and I was in my late 20’s) and couldn’t stand it anymore. So I quit my job after 7 months and set up my own business.

2. What have been the biggest challenges you have had to face as a Woman in Business and how have you overcome them?

Men. Some have been lovely and others not so much, where they’ve either been disrespectful or they’ve tried to tell me how to run my business. Everyone has a choice, so I chose to stop working with certain men. The men I do design for now are lovely, but I am very select about who I do work with on that front because of past experiences.

3. Many women are feeling overwhelmed at juggling their professional and personal life, do you have any tips to share to restore the balance?

Remember to look after yourself. Create a solid morning routine, support your own mental health as much as possible.

4. What has been your greatest mistake in business and what did you learn from it?

Charging too little from the very beginning. I was fresh out of quitting my job, didn’t believe in myself. But, there’s always a lesson in everything we do and that was mine - believe in yourself and your skills more and charge your worth.

5. What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?

You’re going to have good days and bad days. When times get tough, keep going - embrace the challenges. Stay connected to your big dreams and make sure your business model supports the lifestyle you want to be living and the impact you want to be making.
